Depth of Field – Deep & Shallow

I learned a lot this week about setting aperture on the camera. You really have to know what you want in a photograph to capture it correctly. Is focus more important or shutter speed? When focus is the goal aperture (AV) is what needs to be set on the camera, that way you have the control.

I took pictures where I wanted everything clear and I took pictures where I wanted only the subject to be clear. I personally enjoyed the shallow depth of field or low f/stop photography more.

Deep Depth of Field

I have always wanted to get a photo of the Taylor Chapel and I got it at a time of day when no one else was walking around! I made some adjustments to the levels, brightness/contrast and hue/saturation.

On my way to a work meeting I saw this tree turning yellow and thought it looked great among all the green. I’m glad I had my camera with me! I took a light pole out and a person who was walking on the sidewalk. I also, made some adjustments to the levels, brightness/contrast and hue/saturation.

I just think that the gold trees in Rexburg are great. They seem to be the first to turn colours. I know it’s similar to the one above but I still really like this tree that is behind my apartment. I removed some power lines and a barbed wire fense as well as made some adjustments to the levels, brightness/contrast and hue/saturation.

Shallow Depth of Field

These pictures were my favourite to take!

This book and wallet were sitting on my desk at home. Sometimes I just look through the camera to see if there is a good shot. It struck me as a good shot when I saw this through the camera. I made some adjustments to the levels, brightness/contrast and hue/saturation.

I have taken to wandering in order to find things in which to take pictures. This was a little gem I found along the canal that runs behind my apartment. I made some adjustments to the levels, brightness/contrast and hue/saturation.

My wife and I were eating skittles during general conference and I snagged this shot of our candy. I tried setting the skittles in random places for a picture, but there is nothing quite like the true randomness that comes from pouring them out. I made some adjustments to the levels, brightness/contrast and hue/saturation. I edited out a bit of my computer that was in the shot and a shadow.

In trying to get a variety of subjects for my photos I knew I had to get one of my wife’s violin. This is the violin sitting in the case and I liked the colour of thread wrapped around each string. I made some adjustments to the levels, brightness/contrast and hue/saturation.
